Year 3: Meerkats

Oxley Primary > Our Curriculum > Year 3: Meerkats
Autumn 1
Autumn 2
Spring 1
Spring 2

In the Meerkats Class, we start Year 3 by studying the book ‘Meerkat Mail’ by Emily Gravett. Considering the Oxley school values, alongside the story, we decide how we can work together as a team, just like a real meerkat, and think about our class motto. We work together to ensure the first important step into Key Stage 2 is an enjoyable and exciting one!

Throughout the year we explore exciting, cross-curricular topics such as The Stone Age, Volcanoes and Mountains, Gestural Drawing with Charcoal and How Does your Garden Grow.’ We study a plethora of quality picture and chapter books, both for reading and writing opportunities. The books we study allow the children to see themselves in the story and also give them opportunities to learn about the lives of
others through literature. For more information on our topics and learning please click the buttons below.

All children are encouraged to read as often as possible across the school. In the Meerkats, every time a child reads they get rewarded a bug token. As well as being given a raffle ticket for every three reads for the half termly prize draw, they also win a prize from the golden box for completing a row of bugs. The 50 books we recommend your child should read whilst in Year 3 are listed below. Please click below to find out more!
