In the Leopard’s class we pride ourselves on delivering a curriculum that provides enriching experiences for all children in the class. We want our leopards to be happy, hardworking and ambitious children who are excited to achieve their full potential. Our Oxley values of ‘be kind,’ ‘be brilliant’ and ‘have an ‘I can’ attitude,’ are central to our class ethos.
In the Leopard’s classroom, we love to surround the children with literature; reading is an integral part of our Oxley curriculum and we begin the new term by completing a novel study of Anthony Browne’s book, ‘Into the Forest’. Later in the year, we will expand our reading journey further, studying a variety of different genres which we can use to inspire work which will also showcase our developing writing skills. Science is also an area that we are very passionate about and plays a key role in shaping our children’s understanding of the world around them. Our topics this year include Grouping and Classifying Living Things, Sound, the Digestive System and Habitats – to name but a few! We are also very excited this year to be adding some new sustainability topics into our curriculum where we will learn how we can reduce our energy usage and the impact of deforestation. Art and Design and Technology also play a key role in our learning journey and we are very excited to begin the year by learning how to create visual narratives inspired by poetry or prose. Through this, we will study the work of both Laura Carlin and Shaun Tan who tell stories through their artwork.
The above is just a mere snippet as to some of the topics that we will focus on this year and we hope you will join us in our excitement and enjoyment. We, at Oxley, greatly value partnership with parents so if you do have any skills, resources or expertise that you would like to share with us, we’d very much love for you to join us.
