The intent of Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) education in
Oxley Primary School is to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that
equips our pupils with the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need
to lead healthy, safe, and fulfilling lives. Our aim is to promote the spiritual,
moral, social, and cultural development of our pupils, preparing them to
become responsible citizens and contributing members of society. We
have carefully designed our PSHE curriculum to be relevant, inclusive, and
engaging, considering the diverse needs and backgrounds of our pupils.
Our school’s implementation of PSHE is evident in the comprehensive
planning and delivery of lessons that are age-appropriate, coherent, and
progressive. We have dedicated time and resources to ensure that PSHE is
integrated into all aspects of school life, including classroom teaching,
assemblies, and use of additional resources. Through a combination of
direct teaching, discussions, role-playing, and real-life scenarios, we
create a supportive learning environment where pupils feel comfortable
exploring sensitive issues and expressing their thoughts and feelings.
Through PSHE education, our pupils demonstrate a strong sense of self-
awareness, resilience, and empathy towards others. They make informed
decisions about their health and well-being, develop respectful
relationships with their peers, and show a deep understanding of key
concepts such as diversity, equality, and rights.
Ofsted has recognised the positive impact of our PSHE provision on the
personal development and well-being of our pupils, noting that they are
well-prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities, and challenges of later
life. Our pupils speak confidently about the value of PSHE in their learning
and show a clear understanding of how it contributes to their holistic
development. Our strong partnership with parents and the wider
community further enhances the impact of our PSHE provision, creating a
shared commitment to promoting the well-being and success of all our
pupils.
