In the Flamingos’ class, we are highly motivated to be independent learners and we continue to develop our perseverance, stamina and self-reliance within all of our learning. As a class, we are focussed on positivity, having high expectations and we are excited to learn new things. During our educational activities, our school values of, ‘Be Kind’, ‘Be Brilliant’ and ‘Have an ‘I can’ attitude’ are central to our classroom ethos and support us on our journey to achieving our full potential.
When delivering our curriculum, we aim to provide children with real, practical experiences so they can receive an accurate understanding of the world around them. To succeed in this, we create a fair and safe environment where children can listen to, communicate with and question others.
We love reading in the Flamingos class and we really enjoy reading a wide range of books across the year, starting with ‘Into the Forest’ by Anthony Browne. Over the year we will focus and develop our skills in our reading which will also support our learning in our writing, where the children’s imagination will fuel them to write a range of texts and to mathematics, where numbers will be used practically as well as pictorially.
Within the wider curriculum, our topics will range from; learning about the history of Great Britain starting with the invasion from the Romans and the changes that later came with the Celts. Geography will see us investigate how we can protect our planet and live more sustainably and what other areas of the world look like, be they wet or dry.
Our creativity will flow in art as when we study artists such as Shaun Tan and Frances Hatch and mimic their styles and develop our own. Music will be particularly exciting this year as Year 3 children begin to learn more about written music and playing an instrument by starting the recorder and Year 4 children continue to build on these skills by learning another instrument. Children will enjoy the opportunities for hands-on scientific investigations as well as practical elements in design technology. When thinking about tolerance, respect and understanding of others, our RE curriculum will delve into a variety of religions and cultures pairing alongside our PSHE curriculum, giving our children a well rounded view of the world and the part they play in it. The children will also have the opportunity to learn a second language throughout our French lessons and they will improve their skills within PE and computing.
Being a Flamingo is all about being a great member of the flock, supporting and encouraging each other to achieve our very best.
